Game Report: Chris Balcom-Miller, P, Boston Red Sox
I was in attendance for Chris Balcolm-Miller’s best start of the 2010 season. Over seven innings, Balcolm-Miller was nearly flawless allowing no runs and only three baserunners. As impressive as he was, this report will be atypical of what I usually post.
Scouting Report: Ryan Dent, 2B/SS, Boston Red Sox
Ryan Dent spent his age-20 season in the South Atlantic League after being the 60th overall pick in the 2007 draft. On a loaded Greenville infield, Dent played second base and shortstop while chipping in a .252/.350/.391 line at the level. He spent the final week and change in high-A as a preview of 2010. [...]
Scouting Report: Oscar Tejeda, SS, Boston Red Sox
One of the more frustrating prospects in terms of tools meeting production in the South Atlantic League, Oscar Tejeda’s prospect status seems stuck in neutral. On tools alone, Tejeda is one of the top twelve prospects I saw in the “Sally” this season. However, his game is still so raw at this point, it’s difficult [...]
Scouting Report: Michael Almanzar, 1B/3B, Boston Red Sox
The most expensive signing of the 2007 international free agent class, Michael Almanzar began the 2009 season in Greenville after moderate success during his stateside debut. In just over 400 at bats, Almanzar posted a disappointing .220/.276/.298 line across two minor league levels (demoted mid-season) exhibiting poor plate discipline and power numbers. At 19, Almanzar [...]
Game Report: Stolmy Pimentel, SP, Boston Red Sox
Stolmy Pimentel (5 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 1 BB) – Early in the 2009 season, I had circled the Greenville series as a “must see”. Besides Casey Kelly, Red Sox prospect Stolmy Pimentel had garnered quite of prospect hype as an international signing whose bonus ($25,000) made him a bargain [...]
Scouting Report: Will Middlebrooks, 3B, Boston Red Sox
After watching his draft video prior to the 2007 draft, I was convinced Will Middlebrooks would quickly become a top Red Sox prospect. However, injuries and serious contact issues have derailed his progress as he struggles to make it out of the Sally by the time he’s of legal drinking age. Is it too early [...]
Scouting Report: Peter Hissey, OF, Boston Red Sox
An over slot signing in the 2008 draft, million dollar bonus baby Peter Hissey entered 2009 on par with fellow Red Sox prospect Ryan Westmoreland. With about a month left to play, Hissey and his .251/.334/.307 line has been disappointing to say the least. Of the players I’ve had the opportunity to watch at length [...]
Scouting Report: Tim Federowicz, C, Red Sox
As I sit down to write this piece on Tim Federowicz, I can’t help but feel a little dejected as all of the positive things I have to say about his game are probably par for the course right about now as he is currently one of the hottest players in all of minor league [...]
