The August update to my Scouting The Sally Top-25 Baseball Players Scouted ranks current and former prospects seen in person over the live of Scouting The Sally.

Sally Stock Watch: Cordero, May, Ramirez, Saladino

In this addition of Sally Stock Watch, we take a look at the development of Tyler Saladino, Trevor May, Neil Ramirez and Albert Cordero. Have they improved or hurt their prospect status since being featured on Scouting The Sally?

White Sox Prospect Dayan Viciedo Remains Blocked By Underperforming Vets

Over at Roto Hardball, I discuss what I consider to be a major story in Adam Dunn’s struggles most outlets are ignoring. Dayan Viciedo looks ready to succeed at the big league level, but is blocked by veterans who are badly underperforming.

Prospect Video: Miguel Gonzalez, C, Chicago White Sox

Prospect video and thoughts on Chicago White Sox catching prospect Miguel Gonzalez as he looks to rebound from a difficult 2010 season.

Scouting Report: Jacob Petricka, P, Chicago White Sox

Late in the 2010 season, I had the opportunity to see Chicago White Sox prospect Jacob Petricka, the hard throwing right-hander who was taken with the 63rd overall pick in 2010 draft. In recording Petricka’s bullpen, it marked the first time I felt uneasy standing near the backstop as neither he, nor I had any idea where the ball going.

Scouting Report: Juan Silverio, 3B, Chicago White Sox

Chicago White Sox prospect Juan Silverio split the 2010 season between the Pioneer and South Atlantic Leagues posting a .228/.267/.384 combined line in just over 300 at bats. However, about half his home run and walk totals came during short season in less than a hundred at bats while his performance in the “Sally” was reminiscent of a third string catcher. Is Silverio a non-prospect? No, but he’s not a player without significant flaws which more likely than not will prove fatal at higher levels.

2010 Was A Banner Season for Prospects Scouted on STS

While working on my piece ranking the top third base prospects in the “Sally”, I began wondering how much interest would a piece about five teenage third base prospects generate on the cusp of the World Series. Lately, I’ve been pondering the future of the site and how to take a small, South Atlantic League based site to a national prospect audience. As one prospect analysis told me, my site is a niche within a niche and there’s just not a broad audience for that. However, if prospect fans looked through the archives of my site, they would see 2010 was a fantastic year for players scouted on the site over the past couple of years on a national level. Let’s look at a few of those names.

STS’s Best: The Second Basemen v.2010

Second base is the position I consider the most difficult to rank at the lower levels of minor league baseball since there are truly very few strong second base prospects to go around. Of the five players listed, Two are current shortstops who may wind up sliding across the diamond. Another pair may need to move to third base or the outfield due to a lack of defensive chops. With the talent level of middle infield prospects being down across minor league baseball as a whole, the South Atlantic League was certainly not impervious to that trend.

Scouting Report: Tyler Saladino, SS, Chicago White Sox

The best position player on a prospect barren team, Chicago White Sox farmhand Tyler Saladino is a quality shortstop in a league which fielded a scarce few during the 2010 season.  The 7th rounder in this year’s draft handled himself better than most college picks thrust into full season competition by posting a .309/.397/.442 line [...]

Final Thoughts about White Sox Prospects in Kannapolis

The Kannapolis Intimidators were a difficult team to stomach from a scouting point this season. With little high ceiling talent and a roster filled with organizational types, scouts must have spent time trying to avoid them like the plague. However, a handful of prospects worth discussing did make the rounds including Trayce Thompson (prior to season ending surgery), Jacob Petricka, Tyler Saladino, Miguel Gonzalez, and Juan Silverio.
