2010 Was A Banner Season for Prospects Scouted on STS

While working on my piece ranking the top third base prospects in the “Sally”, I began wondering how much interest would a piece about five teenage third base prospects generate on the cusp of the World Series. Lately, I’ve been pondering the future of the site and how to take a small, South Atlantic League based site to a national prospect audience. As one prospect analysis told me, my site is a niche within a niche and there’s just not a broad audience for that. However, if prospect fans looked through the archives of my site, they would see 2010 was a fantastic year for players scouted on the site over the past couple of years on a national level. Sally Smackdown: Freddie Freeman (Braves) vs. Anthony Rizzo (Padres)

In most cases, a top 75 prospect versus a relative unknown would not be much of a match up. However, after seeing both players in person, a number of similarities exist between the two. Both bat and throw from the left side, have similar size, and are almost identical in age. When watching Rizzo in [...]

Post Sally Top Prospect Update

Towards the end of last season, I had the opportunity to catch five of the best hitting prospects the Sally had to offer in Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman, Cody Johnson, Jesus Montero, and Austin Romine. In hearing Montero has been promoted to AA, I wanted to take a moment and review what I have previously [...]

Game Report: Freddie Freeman, 1B, Atlanta Braves

Originally posted on BaseballHandyman.com 9/2/08 Freddie Freeman (0-7, 4 K) – Freddie Freeman seems to have come out of nowhere as a 2nd round pick in the 2007 draft to become arguably the 2nd best hitter in the Braves organization behind Jason Heyward. This year at Rome, Freeman exhibited a great combination of hitting ability [...]
