Sally Stock Watch: Allen, Heathcott, Middlebrooks, Thompson
In this edition of Sally Stock Watch, we look at the growth or lack thereof of a quartet of prospects including Mets Kyle Allen, Yankees Slade Heathcott, Red Sox Will Middlebrooks and Rangers Matt Thompson.
Atlanta Braves Prospect Christian Bethancourt Shows Growth at the Dish, as well as Behind It.
The first game I went to last season was started by Mets prospect Kyle Allen, making his first Sally League start. Here’s this young kid from Florida on a cold, blustery night in Rome facing a major league Hitter, rehabbing Atlanta Braves catcher David Ross, and not having much success. Allen looked completely overmatched against Ross and he was. Showcasing one pitch that evening, a decent two-seem fastball, Ross sat on the pitch and hit a ball over 400 feet for a home run.
Mets Starter Showdown – Kyle Allen vs. Jeurys Familia
Over their final ten starts, Kyle Allen and Jeurys Familia posted nearly identical numbers in the “Sally” solidifying both as top starting pitching prospects for the Mets. Late in the season, I commented, “Both he and Familia will skyrocket up Mets prospect lists in the offseason and should be in the top 10. Consider them [...]
Breaking Down Baseball America’s “Sally” Top 20 for 2009 Part 3
The third and final piece to the top 20 puzzle are the omissions who could have been included. Baseball America’s “Sally” top 20 included a number of early 20′s talents which led to the exclusion of a handful of worthy teens. Let’s look at a few. As a side note, I found it interesting Anthony [...]
Breaking Down Baseball America’s “Sally” Top 20 for 2009 Part 1
With Baseball America’s track record pegging top prospects in the Sally, it’s difficult for me to pen a piece like this in which I’m forced to go against quite a bit of their recently released South Atlantic League top 20 prospects list. Maybe I’m a bit pretentious, but I was able to see a number [...]
Maximum Velocity
With my polishing off a scouting piece on Red Sox prospect Will Middlebrooks today, I am not going to be able to pen another full piece before going back to work tomorrow so I wanted to begin to share some raw data from the 2009 Sally season for readers to feast on. To start, here [...]
Another Critique Request
After reading my critique of Joe DeMayo’s post season top 50 Mets prospects, Tej over at Mets Prospect Hub asked me if I would do the same for his top 60 and I figured why not? Once again, delving so deep into a relatively thin organization is awfully hard from a prospect standpoint so much [...]
Something Quick on a Friday Night
I’m a little late on this, but new blogging acquaintance Joe DeMayo released a Mets post season top 50 including a number of current and former Sally leaguers. Of players on the list, I’ve seen the following; 3. Wilmer Flores, SS 8. Josh Thole, C 9. Kyle Allen, SP 10. Jeurys Familia, SP 15. Robert [...]
Rome @ Savannah: Game 3 Recap
Savannah’s 2009 home season has officially come to an end leaving this as my final game recap of the season. Before I go any further, Sean Ratliff and Josh Satin were promoted to Port St. Lucie and expect a domino effect with Zach Lutz and Kirk Nieuwenhuis moving to AA. For the Braves, J.J. Hoover [...]
