Blue Jays Catching Prospect Travis D’Arnaud Fits The Mold Of Franchise Catcher
In Scouting The Sally’s latest over at Roto Hardball, Mike take a look at the development of Travis D’Arnaud and if current catcher J.P. Arencibia is as big of a roadblock as he appears to be.
Prospect Video: Anthony Hewitt, OF, Philadelphia Phillies
Prospect video and thoughts on Philadelphia Phillies prospect Anthony Hewitt as he looks to recover his once lofty prospect status.
Scouting Notes: Leandro Castro, OF, Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies prospect Leandro Castro is a sleeper prospect within the organization.
Game Report: Trevor May, SP, Philadelphia Phillies
Having experienced disappointment in having a 2009 start by Philadelphia Phillies prospect rained out last season in Savannah, I was thrilled to have a second chance to scout the young pitcher earlier this summer in Greenville. Over six innings, May’s 0 ER, 3 H, 9 K, 3 BB performance was one of the best starts [...]
Scouting Report: Sebastian Valle, C, Philadelphia Phillies
On the way to the park to see Philadelphia Phillies catching prospect Sebastian Valle, I knew I was in for something special when a scout I was speaking to kept asking me, “What did you think of Valle?” When I finally mentioned it was my first time seeing him, his response, “Oh, I’m not saying anything else. Just call me and tell me what you think.” For whatever reason, I had a picture in my mind of a hulking power prospect doing his best catcher impression while putting off the inevitable move out from behind home plate. It’s safe to say, my preconceived idea of the player Valle was was prior to watching him play was off base.
Game Report: Julio Rodriguez, P, Philadelphia Phillies
As I left my hotel room for FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey on a cool, misty mid-August afternoon, I made several mental notes on the prospects I might see that evening, specifically on the Blue Claws roster. I wanted to make sure I was paying attention to the right players, so I could give some observations to Mike Newman. I knew I’d be studying guys like Colby Shreve, Jonathan Singleton and Sebastian Valle.
STS’s Best: The Catchers v.2010
With the minor league baseball offseason upon us, it’s time to take a look back at high profile prospects from across the “Sally” and how they fared this season. To begin, let’s take a look at the five “big name” catching prospects in the South Atlantic League this season from a scouting standpoint since I had the opportunity to watch each play in 2010. I’ll also name drop a couple of prospects to watch out for in 2011 and beyond who may not be on your radar yet as a prospect fan.
Scouting Report: Jiwan James, CF, Philadelphia Phillies
Lean, wiry, and projectable, his appearance draws ones eye almost immediately. After watching him play, I wonder just how much of a mulligan he receives simply because he resembles Domonic Brown? Is he a prospect? Most definitely, but the comparisons to baseball’s best prospect are, in my opinion, amongst the laziest in the industry.
Notes from Lakewood vs. Delmarva
Lakewood’s Colby Shreve was just too dominating through the first five innings to get a feel of Delmarva’s lineup. In my non-professional opinion, the Shorebirds lack any real bat speed. Although there were hard hit balls, I chalk it up more to luck. Why not use Scouting the Sally as your Personal Scout? With Colby [...]
Dynasty Diamond: Sebastian Valle, C, Philadelphia Phillies
Phillies catching prospect Sebastian Valle is owned in all of the deep dynasty leagues (30 or more minors) I play in. However, in two of those leagues, Valle was added by friends only after receiving a friendly tip from yours truly. So what gives? Do catchers on pace to hit 20+ home runs as a 19/20 year old in full season baseball grow on trees? Of course not! So why is Valle only considered a marginal own in deeper leagues?
