Scouting Report: Jonathan Singleton, 1B, Philadelphia Phillies
One of the 2010 season’s true breakout talents, Phillies first base prospect Jonathan Singleton has gone from relative unknown to virtually untouchable prospect in about a year. After dominating the South Atlantic League to the tune of a .373/.460/.672 first half, Singleton’s numbers have fallen off a cliff leaving prospect fans wondering just how talented he is.
Sally Stock Watch: 8/4/2010
Fresh off an overnight trip to Greenville to watch the Drive face the Lakewood Blueclaws, I’m looking down the barrel of about an hour and a half of video to sift through and four or five pages of player notes to turn into coherent reports. To start the writing juices flowing, I figured why not [...]
Bonus Baseball: Lakewood @ Greenville
I’ve had today circled on my calendar since May as my only real opportunity to see Lakewood and their impressive list of prospects in person. With tonight’s 7:00 PM start, followed by a 11:00 AM first pitch tomorrow, it’s the perfect opportunity to catch two games and be home for dinner Tuesday. Why not use [...]
Scouting Report: Travis D’Arnaud, C, Toronto Blue Jays
In hearing Travis D’Arnaud may be involved in the Roy Halladay/Cliff Lee swap, it brought me back to the Lakewood series here in Savannah where D’Arnaud looked like a star in the making. With power to all fields, excellent athleticism behind the plate, and impressive game management skills, he ranked as the best “Sally” positional [...]
Scouting Report: Anthony Gose, OF, Toronto Blue Jays
As a second round pick in the 2008 draft, Phillies prospect Anthony Gose was considered an extremely risky proposition on draft day. As both a pitcher and offensive player, he boasted a low-90′s fastball from the left side and arguably the best wheels in the entire draft. Even with the tools, the uber-raw Gose was [...]
Twin Bill Rained Out
Strike three, I’m out? Rain ruins another evening of scouting Sally talent forcing me to miss top Phillies prospect Trevor May. Add May to Rockies prospect Christian Friedrich, and Rays prospect Nick Barnese, and inclement weather has really hurt my ability to watch top players. Why not use Scouting the Sally as your Personal Scout? [...]
Lakewood @ Savannah Game 2 Notes
Another night, another Lakewood win. Tonight’s game really showed just how important defensive play can be even at the lower levels of the minor leagues. This game swung on the defensive play of both teams center fielders and third basemen. Why not use Scouting the Sally as your Personal Scout? For the Phillies, Travis Mattair [...]
Lakewood vs. Savannah Game 1 Thoughts
Matthew Way was able to expose the Savannah’s big weakness which is hitting breaking pitches. The young Mets looked lost, but it’s pretty typical of players at this level. Way having three pitches he was capable of throwing at any count was simply unfair against this level of competition. Why not use Scouting the Sally [...]
Sand Gnats Back in Town for 8.
This season I’ve had three series circled on my calendar as “must see” and this week, Lakewood comes to town. Minus the recently dealt Jason Knapp and 2008 supplemental first rounder Zach Collier, some of the luster has definitely rubbed off of the team. However, with Anthony Gose, Travis D’Arnaud, and Trevor May among others, [...]
